gift giving

gift wrapping by Maggie Pate

I finally had a moment to wrap some holiday gifts this Sunday. Though I thoroughly enjoy wrapping the presents as much as I love giving them, it is partially useless because most everyone knows what they are getting from me. I can hardly keep a secret. After I have scoured my brain to find or make the perfect present, I am exploding with excitement - I just want to tell the receiver right then and there. So I find myself at a crossroads, do I spend time wrapping the gift even though the content has already been exposed. Here is my thought: if the gift itself is no longer a surprise due to my own inability to keep a secret then certainly the wrapping can be a surprise.

This year I have wrapped my gifts with plain brown paper and adorned them with found or handmade objects. Feathers + twigs or rosemary + hand dyed silk ribbons. The thoughtfulness should continue with the wrapping. If you are a last minute shopper remember that the last day to purchase an inks + thread piece is Wednesday December 18th. You can receive 15% off with discount code LETITSNOW in the shop. I hope my gift wrapping inspires you all to forage + find frills and toppings for your gifts this holiday season.
